[Feb 18th, 2016] "Everything is Computation - In the Real World of Artificial Intelligence"

201602_David_Malkin Speaker: David Malkin
Reactive Inc - Data Scientist, Statistics & Decision Science.

Where to invest your money ? What do your customers want ? What is going on with the economy in China ? What’s the best road to take to work today ?

All of these questions are ultimately answered by performing computation on data, in essence “everything is computation”. With 90% of the world’s data being generated in the last two years it’s almost impossible for humans to answer these questions, and it’s getting harder.

Artificial Intelligence is therefore not only desirable but essential if we are to understand the world around us and make smart decisions.

Artificial intelligence will not be an additional thing companies do, it will be at the core of business. It will be embedded into supply chain optimization, marketing, customer insight, customer support, trend prediction, process automation. If everything is computation than intelligence needs to be everywhere. Where there is data, there will be intelligence.

Our speaker will talk about some case studies and the gains companies have derived from this area.

David (born 1981, U.K. Citizen). After his PhD David worked in academia before co-founding a crowd funding startup where he dealt with all aspects of technical as well as business development. Following this he worked as a quant in a high frequency trading fund, applying various machine learning algorithms for signal generation. This lead David to fund a consultancy helping various clients understand and apply the latest machine learning technology to solve difficult and unusual problems. David joined Reactive to continue applying the latest cutting edge machine learning algorithms in order to solve the customers most difficult challenges.

David has extensive experience in the use of genetic algorithms for the optimization of non-linear high-dimensionality dynamic solutions and is generally interested in fitness landscape theory. He has applied various machine learning technologies and frameworks to solve practical problems. Recently his focus has been on the application of deep learning using various frameworks.

David Malkin holds an Bachelor of Engineering from Kings College London and an Master Science and PhD in Machine Learning from University College London.
